Conference participants will review their knowledge and skills to manage an acute collapse event in an oral surgical / dental environment.

Topics covered will include:

• Recognition and airway management of a person with altered consciousness on a dental chair.
• Hands on application of cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills.
• ‘High Performance’ CPR
• Use of an automated external defibrillator
• Lessons learnt from previous medical emergencies

Presenter: Ian Cash DipN, CCRN B Ed StCEO - Australasian SOS Oxygen & First Responder Training P/L

Ian is a critical care nurse and continues to work clinically part time as an Associate Nurse Unit Manager in Coronary Care. He provides resuscitation training to medical / dental practitioners in both private and public practices. Client groups include private Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery clinics, GP surgeries, University of Melbourne Dental School, Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne, RACDS and ADA groups. He is state treasurer of the Australian Resuscitation Council (Victoria Branch) and is involved with resuscitation guideline formulation and review. Australasian SOS is an accredited RACGP CPR course provider.

The ASM M&M workshop will run for 1 hour and is designed to enable members to meet with colleagues to discuss and review adverse clinical incidents and outcomes. All registrants will be required to submit a potential case presentation to the
moderators, a short list will then be selected to make presentation in the session, for discussion by the rest of the workshop registrants.
